Captain Field Day

Elliott's class in school has been reading "Junie B. Jones is Captain Field Day." All the other first grades on B, C, and D tracks also read the book. The teachers planned a first grade field day where the 4 first grade classes could compete in a few events: pull-ups, skipping, ball toss, relay race,  general race and tug-of-war. Some classes made pom-poms to cheer each other on and Elliott's class made megaphones. The first event was pull-ups and those kids were tough.
Elliott qualified in his class round to compete in the ball toss. Here he is...he threw a great toss, but did not advance to the finals.
Elliott also qualified for the relay race but his team did not win. It was so fun to see him race though.

All the kids in the classes got to participate in the tug-of-war. Elliott's class won the first round.
However they lost the final round to the blue class (the other class in his Spanish immersion program with Maestra Eskelsen and Mrs. Hilton.)

After all the events were over, they had an awards ceremony, giving each winner a medal and certificate. At this point, Trevor was crying and insisting we go home. He was hot and tired since he went to bed late and got up early. I had loaded him and our stuff into our wagon and was saying good-bye to Elliott when the teachers announced a final award. They had chosen one child from each class to be Captain Field Day. This child was a good sport and all-around good kid. I stopped and waited, thinking Elliott would be chosen. He was! He received a cape and certificate for having the best attitude.
I left Trevor crying in the wagon and went over to take a picture of Elliott. He had a big smile on his face. I am bursting with pride over what a great kid he is. He is kind and thoughtful of others. He is careful not to hurt anyone's feelings. He refuses to call anyone his favorite aunt for fear of hurting his other aunts' feelings. He genuinely enjoys activities and see the good around him. He is energetic and happy! It is impossible not to smile when he is being goofy and enjoying life. I love him so much! He is athletic and did well today, but  am most thankful he has a good attitude. (Even when his band-aid on his hand for a burst blister came off in the tug-of-war, he still participated and had a good time.) Way to go, Elliott! I love you and am proud of the good young man you are!
(And even though Trevor wouldn't win Captain Field Day today by crying and being a terrible 2-year-old, I love him too and am so pleased to see how he is developing and growing too!)
