This weekend Hill Air Force Base had the airshow, "Warriors Over the Wasatch." Of course we just had to go check it out since we live so close now and all, even though we could hear and see some of the planes from ouir backyard. But it was definately more exciting and fun being there. We called my mom and she and Brad and Brittany came down for the day. We got onto base before 10 am without any traffic delays. Then we parked and walked over to the tarmac. We are so grateful we have Elliott's stroller (aka the packhorse.) We loaded our umbrella, chairs, blanket and diaper bag on, not to mention that it trasported Elliott as well.
Inside the gigantic cargo plane.
And Brad, Mom and Brittany happy to be there as well.
Elliott was scared of this jeep and didn't want to sit in it. I thought Brad would think it was cool, but he just wanted to get where he could watch the airshow.
Finally! We set up camp to watch all the loop-de-loops and fly-bys. It was windy and cool, so we refreshed ourselves with hot chocolate and churros. MMmmm.
Elliott didn't seem to be impressed with the airborne planes, but he was excited to hold his airplane and make it fly.
Soon it started sprinkling and we donned our ponchos. They helped to block the icy wind too.
We tried not to be fairweather fans and brave the rain.
But the downpour caused a delay in the airshow and people ran for cover in some open hangars. But it seemed like most people were leaving. We made a mad dash to my mom's truck that was parked in the handicapped parking right behind the building in the picture above.
We were wet and cold, but it was nice to have shelter so close by. We watched it rain for about an hour, then decided since the storm wasn't letting up, we should go eat lunch. Mom gave us a ride closer to our van so we didn't have to walk for 40 minutes in the rain.
Still smiling and trying to enjoy our adventure!
We are glad to be out of the rain.
Elliott might have had more fun in gramma's truck than at the airshow.
It took us another hour to get to our van and then another hour to get off the base. At that point, the rain was letting up and the airshow was starting again. But we were wet, tired and cold. Elliott was napping and we decided not to go back to base. Mom and Brad and Brittany went back however and really enjoyed the Thunderbirds. Even with the rain and delays, we were glad we went to the airshow and plan on going next time they come to town. Anyone else want to join us?
