We are always looking for something fun and exciting to brighten up our days. So when we have leftover hamburger buns that are getting really stale and awesome neighbors that are always ready for fun, then magic happens. My neighbors Heidi and Tammy brought Gracie, Marisa and Lindsay to the Layton Park to feed the ducks. Elliott and I met them at the library first for some books and then we skipped over to the ducks who were as happy to see us as we were to see them.
Lindsay showed Elliott how to break off pieces and throw them.
And Elliott enthusiastically threw his chunks of bread. (Heidi helps Gracie further back and Tammy suntans - not sure where Marisa went off too.)
There were lots of ducks and geese to feed.
Some started getting too close for Elliott's comfort so he headed for higher ground.
We also have a bird and nature reserve pond very close to our home. So on a Saturday afternoon we gathered up some more stale bread and this time we took Brian with us to feed the ducks. It is very pretty there and the best part is that you can look beyond it all the way to the Great Salt Lake and not see any houses or buildings or anything. It does a small town girl some good to escape all the city stuff for a bit.
Brian liked getting down and helping until that goose nipped at the bread in his hand and got his fingers too. Then the goose tried to steal Elliott's bread and freaked him out. He dropped the bread and ran away in terror.
Once we chased the goose back and calmed Elliott down, he felt safe enough to throw his bread from atop a large rock.
Bridges add fun as well as a practical way to cross the pond. Here are my two guys watching the ducks dip down in the water and then shake it off. All the ducks kept doing it over and over - was it bath time for them?
We enjoy these little outings out and hopefully Elliott won't be a scaredy-goose forever.
