Elliott has been looking forward to his birthday for months. He knew it would come a week after Halloween and a month before baby Trevor is born. He also knows that 5 is the age he needs to be to start Kindergarten next year. (Even though he doesn't want to go to school now that he has learned principles are real and he doesn't want to be sent to the principle's office like Junie B. Jones that we listen to on CD in the car.) Anyway, his excitement has been building and he has been making a list of toys he wants for his birthday or Christmas and eagerly awaiting his big day. Sunday, November 2, we had a family dinner at Brian's parents and decided to celebrate with cake and ice cream then. I wasn't feeling well at all on Saturday and the Lego cakes didn't turn out as I wanted, but Elliott was happy and that is all that mattered.

Elliott was very excited to wake up Monday morning to put together his lego set. I tried to get him to smile at the camera, but I'm not sure what he was thinking by this face.

And this is what a master builder building a new set looks like. I was very impressed by how much Elliott built. The instructions are so easy to follow the pictures and see where to connect the pieces.

Toward the end, he did get more easily distracted by playing with all the parts that were finished so I did get to help build some and finish it up. It has lots of cool features that Elliott loves to demonstrate. He also loves me to play with him since he says I have an awesome ninja turtle voice to come up with scenarios.

Monday night we took Brian to the airport for a quick business trip. He was supposed to fly home Wednesday night, but since his meeting ended early on Wednesday, he barely caught an earlier flight and we picked him up at 2:30 to spend the rest of Elliott's actual birthday with us. My mom and Brittany and Brad came down to celebrate and spend the night. We took Elliott for a birthday dinner at The Golden Corral. Since it was his special night, we let him play this game in the lobby.
We all enjoyed the food and Elliott even ate chicken and potatoes and garlic bread, but his absolute favorite were the strawberries he got to dip in the chocolate fountain. He ate 5 chocolate covered strawberries and the cotton candy as well.
Gramma Cook even used the sticks to sword fight with Elliott -she is one cool Gramma!
The next morning we hung out and went shopping and to lunch with Brittany, Brad and Gramma before they left for home. We sure enjoyed seeing them - thanks for coming!
We had also arranged to go to lunch, shopping and a movie with Grandma Ashton for Elliott's birthday. Since Brian had taken Monday off (Tuesday was Veterans Day and a paid day off) we made a day of it. We started with lunch at Zupas (Elliott got extra chocolate covered strawberries) with Grandma, aunt Marsha, Karoline, Ben, Wendy, Andrew and baby Cameron.

Then we ventured across the parking lot to Toys R Us where Grandma bought Elliott a hot wheels launcher that he picked out for his birthday.
After that, we split up and then added a few more by picking up Miles and Ian to come to the new Disney movie Big Hero 6 with us. We all enjoyed it very much and Elliott especially laughed and enjoyed it as only kids can. After more than a week of celebrating, we have finally finished all of Elliott's birthday activities. I hope he enjoyed it and doesn't expect a big production every year. I wanted to make this year extra special since it is only a few more weeks before we add baby Trevor to the family and things change quite a bit around here.
Elliott also looks much older since we finally cut his hair!
We are so proud of the kind, affectionate, funny, smart and happy boy Elliott is!
