Family Trip to Arizona

Elliott is in year-round school, which means he goes for 9 weeks then has 3 weeks off. School starts at the end of July and ends at the beginning of the next July. So far, we have loved it! We haven't gone on many trips while he has been off track though. Until now! Brian had a work trip to Tucson while Elliott was off track. And bonus! It was also over President's Day weekend so that gave us an extra day. It is a 12+ hour drive straight through to Tucson and we couldn't do that, so Brian got off work early at 2 pm on Tuesday, February 14. We left at 2:30 and the kids did great in the car. We stopped a lot for the bathroom but we had counted on that. Trevor slept for the first few hours of the trip, then needed a stretch break at a rest stop.
At first I thought this was a bear, but closer it looked like a wolverine. Anyone else know?
My boys were trying to growl and be terrifying, but they ended up just being silly.
Yep, silly is the best!
Thank heavens for big parking lots and lots of curbs to scale!
We got our energy out and back in the car. Our next big stop was in Beaver at the McDonald's play place for dinner. It was a great place for Elliott and Trevor to stretch and play and then they ate in the car. The stars were so bright as we drove down the freeway, that we pulled over at a rest stop to get out and stargaze. It is amazing to see many more stars in the sky. At our home we can see the constellations, but there are so many hidden by the light pollution. I'm glad we had a chance to appreciate the stars as we traveled.

Elliott enjoyed playing with his newest valentine giraffe, Love-a-lot.
Trevor did well on our first day of travel as well. He didn't like how dark the car was, so we drove most of the way with the dome light on.
We arrived at our hotel in Las Vegas at 10:30 pm. I was confused that the hotel clock said 9:30. With daylight savings time, we gained an hour. But we would lose it the next day since Arizona was the same as Utah.
We left Las Vegas at 9:30 am (really 10:30 in Utah and Arizona.) It was fun to drive through Boulder City and remember our last vacation there to ride the train. then past Hoover Dam and on into desert country. I loved seeing the cacti all along the route. We ate lunch in Wickenburg AZ. Then it was a long stretch of nothing and we had to make only 1 stop on the side of the road for Elliott to go to the bathroom. We made it to Phoenix in time for rush hour. We made it to Tucson after 7 and stopped at Walmart on the way to the hotel for some salads and yogurt for dinner. It was nice to settle in at the hotel for a few days.

Brian has been traveling to Tucson several times a year for the past few years. He has traveled to Tucson over 30 times so I was excited to see where he stayed and what it was like.
