For this staycation of ours, we purchased Salt Lake City Connect passes that allow admission into lots of museums and parks. We planned on seeing lots but still have some to visit through this next year. This morning we woke up and headed to downtown Salt Lake City. We wanted to start at Temple Square, but the security was pretty tight for President Packer's funeral. We walked down to the Gateway Plaza and started our day at the Discovery Gateway. Elliott and I had visited years earlier, but this was a first for Trevor and Brian.

Elliott patiently waited his turn to run this crane, delivering building blocks up on the platform. We also followed the blueprints on the wall to build a building.

This was a very gentle horse to stand so still while kids took turns riding her.
She doesn't even blink for the cameras!

Elliott, the crazy driver taking us for a spin! We also enjoyed giving a weather report on the news, shopping for groceries, recycling and driving a garbage truck and playing on the outdoor helicopter.
We spent several hours at Discovery Gateway then stopped in at the Planetarium on our way past. It is always fun to step on Mars.

We then rode the Trax train back to Temple Square. It had rained earlier that morning and so was still cool as we walked around Temple Square. We stopped in at the Family Discovery Center at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. I discovered that I am second cousins 12 times removed to William Shakespeare, seventh cousins 3 times removed to John Wayne and tenth cousins 4 times removed to Walt Disney. There are other features showing you where all your ancestors came from and I also learned that there are 347 people named Dejah in the US. I am not so unique after all. But come on, we didn't look up how many thousands of Brians there are.
We had lunch at the Lion House and continued to the visitor centers. We enjoyed the miniature replica of the inside of the Salt Lake Temple and showing the videos about the temple to Elliott. As Elliott says, that is the temple "we" were married in. The new missionary exhibit and videos are great in the north visitor center, as are the new portraits of Christ from the bible videos put out by the church. We spent a few moments near the beautiful Christus statue and I am so grateful that we have a smaller version in our home.
We are so grateful for temples and the sweet spirit of peace we can feel there and on temple grounds. It is truly a haven from the world.
