Today was Zoo day and on this day, we left early. The zoo opens at 9 am and we arrived by 9:10. There is parking available, it is less crowded and cooler temperatures in the morning and oh so worth getting there early.
Elliott buckled in the car with Lovey, his new giraffe pet he got from the Bean Museum at BYU. (He has a giant giraffe named Giraffey and Lovey is his son.)
We met up with Karen in the parking lot and she got us in on her zoo pass. The giraffes and zebras at the entrance are stunning. Elliott and Lovey approve.
The giraffe statues are also new and cool. The train opens at 10, but on this rainy day didn't run at all which was a bummer!
Every kid needs a map to feel like they are in charge and are leading this expedition.
The dinosaurs throughout the zoo were pretty cool and we could climb on this one for pictures.
Trevor doesn't know to look at the camera and pose, he just wanted to check out this creature!
Karen, Cora and Elliott way below this dinosaur that makes the giraffes look like shorties!
Of course we had to ride the carousel. Trevor picked this Tiger.
Elliott doesn't like riding the animals and miving up and down, so he claimed the bench with Karen, Cora, Samuel and Trina who works with Samuel.
Trevor didn't mind going up and down and around and around. He just wanted to eat the bar and luckily did not catch any viruses after licking the pole.
We went to the elephant show at 10:30. It was well worth it and fun to see the elephants kneel and retrieve a ball and eat and do tricks.
It is always more fun to see an animal moving and interacting that just standing there. We also saw the seal and sea lion show and the bird show. Man, our zoo is awesome!
Brian and Elliott with the T Rex.
Elliott the zookeeper running away from a scary T Rex.
While waiting for Brian to catch up with us, (he was touring a Mongolian hut or something) Elliott wanted his picture taken with these tigers.
He was having fun posing since it was his idea for the pictures. If I ask, he hates it!
He even snapped a photo of Lovey riding atop the tiger.
We really enjoyed our zoo day!
