We started our "Staycation" vacation! This year we decided to take a week-long vacation from home. We are excited to do and see a lot of fun things right here in the Salt Lake valley. The timing works out perfectly because Elliott starts Kindergarten in just 2 weeks. Originally, our track on the year round schedule was going to start August 10, but when we got into Spanish, it moved up to July 20. So now i am glad we have some fun planned before school starts.
We have wanted to visit Ogden's Dinosaur Park for quite some time and made it as far as the parking lot a few years ago, but never actually made it. So a stay-cation is the perfect time to visit all the things nearby we never get around to seeing.
We left the house around 10 am and lathered in the sunscreen in the parking lot before venturing in.
Brian and Elliott started uncovering dinosaur bones in the excavation pit.
The Dinosaur Park is filled with giant (to us - I guess they are life-sized) dinosaurs.
Elliott wasn't that excited to pose with this awesome creature.
But Daddy stepped in and made it seem fun to almost get eaten.
Now he's got the hang of it!
We freed Trevor from the stroller long enough for some pictures with the Triceratops.
The dinosaurs were massive and it was so cool to walk up close and see their giant feet and legs and mouths. The detail we great and Elliott loved following the map.
My favorite creatures were trapped behind a fence since they were alive.
There was also a great big playground area for kids to play, complete with a tree slide reminiscent of the one from Hogle Zoo 20 years back, remember that awesome tree slide and the wooden horses? Come on, you remember!
It was too hot to play very long, but so nice that most of it was in shade. We got Trevor out for mor photos.
Trevor found the dinosaur more interesting than daddy with a camera.
We fed the fish and ducks in the pond and I fed Trevor, then we escaped the heat by going into the air-conditioned kid discovery building. There is a craft there everyday for kids to do. Elliott and I colored a Utah-raptor and then added sticks to make puppets.
See, it is just us!
Throughout the day, Trevor has been so good. He likes being pushed in the stroller and is content to watch Elliott. He was getting a bit cranky at this point since he was so sleepy and he might have fallen asleep if the room hadn't been filled with other screaming children.
As the afternoon got hotter, we explored the little museum inside. There were some exhibits with dinosaur skeletons and a few kid activities. It was pretty neat to watch someone at work in the lab, working with fossils.
Then upstairs are some boring rocks and gems and some awesome animatronic dinosaurs. I wondered what was making the growling sounds from the stairs. Then I was impressed!
We then went to Costco for lunch and supplies to last us for our vacation week.
It was a great start for our vacation.
